Events:

Operation H.O.P.E. relies heavily on the fundraising efforts of its volunteers to provide the foundation for its operating budget. Several major annual events each year are planned by committed volunteers and supported generously by a wide variety of donations from the community.

Annual Dinner and Auction:

The major fundraising event of the year is held each Spring. Although there is some variation from year to year, the event generally includes ticketed dinner sales, live auction, and opportunity drawings for a wide variety of baskets and gifts. Entertainment is provided by local musicians. During the evening a “success story” is provided by one of the shelter’s graduating families and entertainment features local musicians.

Operation H.O.P.E. Leader Honored:

On May 2, 2009, community leaders gathered to honor Jean Cole the CEO and one of the founding leaders of the shelter. Mayor Pro Tem Bob Campbell read the proclamation declaring the day as "Jean Cole Day" in the City of Vista. The Hawaiian themed event was held at the shelter and was well attended by many civic and community leaders.

Moonlight Theatre Preview Night:

One of the most popular fundraisers has been the Preview Night Summer Fundraiser at the Moonlight Theatre. This popular venue provides proceeds from a preview night of a summer production. Tickets for a performance only or performance (with orchestra seating) and dinner are available. Opportunity drawings are available and add extra enjoyment to the evening.
(NOTE: This event will not be held in 2009 as the Moonlight staff adjusts to its brand new amphitheatre – we look forward to an exciting summer evening in 2010.)

Annual CROP Hunger Walk:

CROP is an arm of Church World Service, an international cooperative ministry of 35 Protestant, Orthodox, and Anglican denominations, which helps to provide sustainable self-help and development, disaster relief, and refugee assistance in some 80 countries. In the current climate of worldwide economic downturn, relief agencies are facing unprecedented struggles to provide assistance.

Today, CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty is best known for the grassroots community CROP Hung Walks held across the country each year. This year CROP Hunger Walks will share nearly $4 million with food banks, pantries, community gardens, and other local efforts nationwide.

Operation H.O.P.E. is the recipient of the CROP policy that allows up to 25% of the funds collected locally to be returned to a designated community organization. The successful January 2009 CROP Walk held in Vista yielded slightly over $10,000 for Church World Service with 1/4 of that amount returning to Operation H.O.P.E.
